Handicapping Tip #1 - Beaten Claiming Races

When horses are coming from races with many different conditions I like to compare the level at which they broke their maiden and the BSF in that win. I use this especially in N2L, N3L, and beaten claimers where they usually don’t have many wins. This gives a type of class comparison. Like in the upcoming race 8 for Friday, July, 22, at Monmouth, which is a beaten 16,000 claimer for 3YO or N2L, Clm 16000 (16-14)B. That condition means that the 3YO's are allowed in with any number of wins, but the older horses can have only that one maiden win. That can mean that an experienced 3YO can have an edge in "beaten" claimers.

Remember, it is just one piece of information. What has the horse done since that maiden victory?
